I think this thing will be perfect for what you designed it for!
People are whining saying it won't do anything, not sure why this site has so much negativity. I know we're all entitled to opinions but sometimes you should just keep it to yourself or at least word it better. I mean this guy came up with this on his own to solve a problem he had, then people who didn't put the effort forth come in to bash it and say it won't do anything? A-holes. It may be light aluminum tubing but it will deflect rocks and at least slow down the impact, most likely saving the housing, which was the goal. I think this is awesome, especially with the obsession over "built not bought". This is that on a small scale! Awesome job OP, definitely stealing this idea.

Hey great idea. I will def. be putting these on my XJ. Cheap way to save my headlights from that guy in front of me who decides to peal out and sling rocks, mud, sticks, and debris all over the front of my jeep. While these wont protect from a major tree impact (That is what my bumper is for) they will protect from the small stuff! Great write up and keep em coming cant wait to see what you come up with next from our local retailer...
For the rear you can cut angle iron and drill holes in it to bolt behind the tail lights. Just take some steel round bar and bend it at a 90 and weld it to the angle iron.

Thanks for posting this. I was just thinking on ideas for protecting the lights this weekend. Was trying to figure some extension off the front bumper but I like the clean look of this better.

-Seriously. The dude turned a cookie tray into an auto accessory, and it serves it purpose while being lightweight and looks decent.
When the Zombies come, you are going to be wishing you had the ingenuity this guy does!

Motorcharge-If you have had success this route, please let us know. I'm dying to build a set for the rear on mine. I can't find them anywhere. Good first project for my new-to-me welder!

make your own, or go home.
