I built a quick and dirty hatch area storage box today.
Need: 30" or so piano hinge
screws
2X6s (three 8 foot boards) probably less if you do some figuring before
cutting
4x8 plywood of your choice
L brackets to secure to floor
Miter saw
Table saw
Jig saw
Compass (the math kind, not the finding north kind)
First step was to clean out hatch area.

Then came the basic frame.

The divider.

I went the top-opening hatch route instead of drawers like I originally wanted due to the need for dogs to stand on top and still have room. If I made drawers they'd be too shallow to swallow much.
Use the compass to scribe the contours of the interior onto the plywood lid. Use a jig saw to cut it out.

Same for left side.

Drilled some holes to accept the legs of my dog cage.

Painted.

All that's left is to carpet the top, straps with hooks to hold the doors up for me, and add lockable latches (two per hatch).
What do you think? Criticism accepted, compliments welcome ha ha

Just read the Stockie at the top of the page. Guess this doesn't count as fabrication. Mods please move to wherever or delete it. Sorry about that. Shoulda read the sticky first as instructed
