There are some videos on youtube with an orange xj with a corvette engine, i think a 5.7 or something. it is sick. I have seen some wranglers with the chevy 350 but never an xj.

5.2L V-8s are running hot when off-road, and a 350 is going to be worse. You're going to need to do some cutting to accomodate bigger headers, an oversize radiator, and install some hood vents. Maybe some fender vents, or other modifications.
And as someone who jammed a 460 Marine block into a Ford F250, I can tell you from experience that making your own motor mounts, meshing to the transmission, and finding accessories & accessory mounts is a real chore. You will be modding and fabbing A LOT, and returning a lot to the parts store. Make sure you have plenty of money, and a great relationship with your parts guys.

I have a 4.3L, which is a chopped down 5.7. I had to do everything for a V8 swap for this one and could drop a small block in any time with out issues. I just prefer 6Cyl gas milage.
Anyway, you will need a Griffin radiator with some big electric fans on it, vent your hood a lot, possibly an extra U joint in the steering sector shaft, new cross member unless you use a 700R4, and if you are going to run those tractor tires a stronger tcase. Those chain drive cases are not going to stand up to that. I had to get custom power steering hoses. Advance adapters recommends a small power steering pulley to clear the steering box. And don't even think of trying to run stock axles with those tires. A lift kit is mandatory for any V8 swap and get a remote oil filter adapter cause the drive line will be in the filter.

I also work with a guy that is running a Chevy 350 in his 89. It's not ideal. But he is finishing up his Scout II frame and new axles for the running gear swap now.

Incorrect.
Passenger drop chevy axles will work fine if you run an un-flipped D300 transfer case. A D300 case install should be cake compared to the entire drivetrain swap you are talking about.
Check out Ashman's build over on Pirate. I believe tossed in a Chevy 350. Heck, tons of people over there have. Just read the Mission statement in the Cherokee section and search your *** off before you post ANYTHING over there.
