Ok i bought a CSI 8000 lb winch NS Hd to fab a cheap but funtional bumper to mount it to. I got a winch plate for $18 at Harbor Freight, went to the local scrap yard and bought 5 ft of .250 plate for frame mounts, 45 inches of 3.5 in flat and two 2 ft by 3 ft flat. All the flat steel was 3/16 thick. Total so far with winch plate is $45!! I stopped at the local hardware store and spent $25 on misc. 1/2" nuts and bolts and a few gringing wheels and cutting wheels for a four inch grinder. Total now $70!! Heres a few pics of the pre fab mock up using poster board and duct tape...

Ok cutting 1/2 plate with a 4" grinder is ****ty!! And the drilling of 16, 1/2 inch holes in the same plate is also a blast with an electric drill!! Pics of the plate with the winch kind of attached....

Hey thats thinking outside the box. I never though about getting steel from the scrap yard, great idea. The style of your bumper looks great. Keep the pics coming, I need all the ideas that I can take in for when I build my bumper. Are you going to add D-ring mounts to your design?

you going to add D-ring mounts to your design? Today 09:43 PM They sell these online for around 375ish with a roller fairlead. I picked this one up through my work for 300. So far it looks like decent quality and the remote is actually pretty cool, ill post up pics of it all. Im gonna do either clevis mounts or d-rings, just havent figured out wich ones yet. The winch is actually called a Low Profile, its like 2 inches shorter than most others. Thanks for the feedback, Im trying to go more towards function no looks.

Heres some more pics, I had to cut the frame mounts at an angle so they didnt stick down to far.

K heres a few more pics, its not done yet but I kinda need to drive it tomorrow to pic up the new LED tv!! I just cut the top plates, notched them to fit around the winch plate to sit up against the frame mounts, welded them on and hit it real quick with a grinder. Ill get the measurements for braves7pro in the morning, and ill get the part # for the winch plate to, they dont have it on their site anymore I guess but the stores still stock a ton of em. If you do like I did I just looked for one that was scratched to hell and they cut the price way down for me... there will be more on the build in the next few days, thanks

nice! gonna have to hit up the scrap yard... have an old CatConvert to sell back anyway...

I like how simple you made it, but did notice one thing... did you leave any gap at the grill? or is the bumper right up to it? should have a bit of gap for twist/flex

Yeah theres a slight gap in between the grill, not as much as i wanted but I forgot to check that before burnin a few welds. Hey if you take in you cat-converter itll give you enough for steel for your bumper. And yeah simple is usually as strong, even though its not all round and pretty like most other bumpers I see. And I did this in about 2-3 hours, since I drive it every day. Holy crap i just found this and its funny!
