I just saw this thread so I thought I might chime in. I built this rack about a year ago for basically the same reasons but I also wanted everything off the the top of the jeep. So... The tire , axe/shovel , highlift all fit inside and I still have room for three totes below it. My tent and sleeping bags fit on the sides ect ect the rack is quick disco (last picture) so if need be it can come out in a few minutes. I use an old closet shoe back in the back it has 8 slots so rope / tie downs ect ect go back there all in all it works perfect. Pardon the mess!!

I wish that I could put my tire, jack, and all that inside, yet when I go camping it is usually me, the wife, and 2 kids. Plus enough stuff for 3days and 2 nights min. Just wait till I have to take the dog.
Hey would anyone think less of me if I left the wife at home to take the dog?

lol
