I came across this thread couple years back, and I thought I would share my storage box inspired by Uber's.
Couldn't help myself!

No, I don't lick fish.
I like it man, tell us more about it. What's in the drawers and what is the cubic inches of the sub portion? Great useage of space, btw. Also, what's the purpose of the cutout on that one side?

Thanks, Nothing in the drawers as of yet, but planning on some spare parts. Starter, alternator, etc, etc, tool set, recovery equipment. The 12" Kenwoods are in two separate 1.3 cu. ft. sealed enclosures. The box ended up being very heavy, so I made a bunch of lightening holes.

I liked the layout and really like the behind rear seat ideas. I will be concerned about the excessive use of 3/4 PWD .... how much weight was added to this XJ? A lot could be done to reduce weight and not lose integrity and strength. For example, 1/2 or even 3/8 PWD for verticals would be good. Make the drawers of !/2 pwd with 3/8 bottoms. I did see one mention of cutting holes to reduce weight with the 3/4, but there could be much greater savings with larger cutouts.
The PWD dashboard seems too dangerous for on-road use. The airbags are critical. Explore the use of using plastic materials and acrylics, it's not all that hard to build very cool intruments and clusters without going to 3/4 PWD

funny, i hear that quite a bit when people see it in person.. then they find out that i have just over $400 into it in materials alone, and that usually ends the conversation. haha
i'd be more than happy to build these for anyone willing to pay for it (i seriously love to build stuff) but nobody actually wants to
