Was finally able to complete the install of the usb port, after getting power back.

 

Now I just have two more accessory and two more usb ports that I need to figure out where I want to install them.

How did you wire them up and where did you get the USB ports from

 

If you want a kit type look at prime4x4.com he has a few switch panels that can add a usb jack.

I stripped the USB ports from an old pc and built up a 7805 charging circuit. Then wired it to switched power. I can upload a schematic of the circuit, if anyone is interested.

Be sure to use as big of a heatsink on the 7805, as possible. Also, it would be a good idea to put it on a 2A fuse. I didn't bother adding that to circuit when I threw it together.

 

Nice. Btw, a cheap simple way of doing this is buying a "compact" cigarette lighter USB charger and take it apart. Then just solder your leads on and find a place to cut/mount it. You could toss a relay in to make it come on with ignition. Or just on a switch.

 

Agreed! I would have gone that route myself, but, I'm an avionics technician and like to build stuff. This particular setup is fast charging.
