And really ... why not support the vendors that support you ?

I also have had no problems with my D35, but if/when I am ready to do rear coils to my rig I wouldn't want to put all that work into a axle that has been proven to fail!!! This is a major project & u can bet ur jeeps gonna be down for at least a couple months!
Check out the guys build http://www.jeepkings.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=76641

Question

I just want to say that i do understand the "faulty" history of the d35 and its common problems. but ive had a full blown rock crawler before custom axles custom tube body, you name it i built it or helped do so. that being said, it was a different time in my life and i joined the military so naturally like every other retarded person does...I sold it and i regret it every day.

Now since i have bought my Cherokee i notice a trend of jealousy amongst my friend that i go wheelin' with (Mostly new TJs). they all hate to see my Cherokee do the things it does.

My point here is now i like to take things that were not really made to withstand massive abuse, SURVIVE A NUCLEAR BOMB! Ive seen a d35 that is no **** Bullet Proof.

sorry for the long post but, i guess this is just sortuv an opinion thing right? tomato tom-a-to?

Here is my thought since you posted this ...

And yes ... you may think I'm an azz for saying it .....

But why are you asking for help then ?

Based on what you typed ... it sounds like you know how to build (custom this, custom that) and you shouldn't need our assistance. I could see if you had some very specific questions --- however, you appear to be looking for a starting point. Find a kit you like, do the math, start measuring, keep cutting, and then weld it up.

Anything can be built up. And the unconventional is fun. My own project is an example of that. But you have to know & understand WHY things work the way they do before digging in. Many people (including myself) feel that the D30 is, in some ways, stronger than the D35. In my case .. the 8 lug D30 (read the thread) was out of necessity, rather than the desire to be unique. Another situation forced my hand to convert to 8 lug. The money you are going to spend on a D35 to build it up .... you can start with a better foundation. The build up costs will be the same otherwise.

I am not going to sit here and question your actual knowledge levels. But one cannot help to wonder what you really know what your real train of thought is.

Here's a great example. There was once an article in Hot Rod Magazine called "Ten Bolt Tango" It was concerning how a rodder built his 10 bolt to survive a 975 hp big block without breaking. Of course, he built the axle and did the proper work as well ... but there was a lot of prep involved. He had to set up at the light with a trans-brake every time so that the teeth were already engaged long before he stomped on the pedal. And his environment was more controlled than ours is and more consistent. We do not have that luxury. Between spotty traction, 'tire in the air' situations, torquing up against a rock, etc etc --- we're putting more stress on the housing than the actual R&P. Are you going to be able to think out scenarios like this when you build your axle ?

Show us what you know .... and then some of us (there are others with knowledge that don't always pipe up) will be more willing to help.

I agree. I don't want to waste time arguing.

I've had both things happen with the d35. I had an 88 XJ that I popped the clutch with 31 mts and it blew both shafts at once. Then I replaced with same axle and jumped it 50ft with 10ft of air flowing under me. had a video but computer crashed. So It really is a finicky axle everyone is different from the other. some break some don't. But keep me posted on that coil setup I wanna do the same with coil overs.
