Ok guys, here is a few pics to keep the ball rolling. Tailgait Mod. Obviously the hatch used to open upward. So we had to come up with hinges. Went to Tractor Supply and picked up a couple just general heavy duty hinges. Cut pockets in the bottom of the tailgate, recessed the pockets in so the hinges would fit flush, and welded them in place.

Update Guys. Off subject but a Brother/Sister Team have been arrested in the string of 5 armed robberies in the past week and a half here and have already admitted to them. So maybe now I can get back to the updates on this jeep build.

Ok guys. Here's what's up. Here is a back view of the jeep. Ready to start on the bumper.

A notch had to be cut in the sub-frame so the handle on the tailgate would not hit.

This is the insert that was put in the notch out place to give it a recessed spot.

Here you can see how it is now recessed.

Now that is a clean finish for when the tailgate is down and there is just enough thickness for the bumper to be added in.

Now mocking up the steel for the rear bumper.

The steel was first cut to size by a cardboard template.

Then bent at the proper seams

The lines on the steel show where bends will be made to keep a clean body line.

Are you modeling the metal bumper after the stock one?

Yes and no. It does have the higher sections out on the corners like the factory plastic but only to match the body lines with the tail-lights and all. It will not be nearly as low sitting as the factory bumper. The new bumper will hug very very close to the sub frame to give it more of a bobbed look also. We did not use the factory rear bumper as our templet so it should have a different appearance. I'm diggin it a lot.

Ok cool I was alittle worried because the stock one is a big pos and just gets in the way I've thought about running without it

Yeah I don't like how big and bulky with low clearance the factory bumper is.
