8.25 pumpkin, trying to definitively ID the exact metal type.
I know it is cast
I dd 3 test to see if I could determine cast steel?, "gray cast iron" or "Ductile iron"
The spark test I ground on a steel perch to compare to grinding on the cast center
So the steel perch is defenetly what I expect from steel, the center is not as intense,, but not what I see on line for "Cast Iron",, mine was somewhere in between.
Next I did the drill test,, I did not get powder and only small chips like I see on videos of drilling "cast Iron"
My drilling had some dust, some small chips and some "spirals" , the spirals I could bent and flex, they did not crumble and break.
Then I did a punch test, 1 mild hit with a small ball peen hammer on a center punch,, it left a very definitive ridge around the punch dimple.
So,, The spark test did not look like sparks from mild steel,, so I was leaning away from cast steel on the spark test,, The sparks look somewhere between ductile and gray cast iron,, so unsure on this test.
The drill test left me a little of everything,, but all the "Gray cast iron" drill test videos I watched had zero spirals, so I am leaning away from generic "Gray cast iron" on the drill test.
The punch test is showing me it is not generic gray cast,, all the videos I saw of a punch on "cast iron" had NO ridge around the punch.
So is this "Cast Steel" or "Ductile Iron"
