Evan.
How did you find welding to the 8.25 center go??
is it cast steel, cast iron (I know, generic terms)
What process did you use?
Thanks,
Slack

I could really care less if you or anyone else can identify my axle. There is more than enough beef in the 8.25 with lip removed. I axle essentially skid plated the round hump to make it slide over obstacles better like jagged rocks. Yes it looks nothing like an 8.25
This its whats inside probly cant be identified either lol. I would have liked to weld 1/4\" plate make the carrier span its load better side to side. Thats what i did on 14ff. You cant on c clip axle have to be able to get clips out. These welds are with 035 flux core wire burning pretty good out of a hobart 180. Have to be careful where how much and when you weld or youl just be cracking the last weld. Cast steel is alot more forgiving than cast iron. My dana 35 currently under my rig is the
the thing I've found is the ground and this on ground seem to always find the perfect spot to hang you up so anything smoother is better. Even if it's only a 1/4 its sharp square edge that's anchors the rig solid.
I'd gladly loose ground clearance to gain smooth clearance. I've been debating long arms or raise control arm mounts on the axle to get arms flat or near flat to gain less front axle hang up points..
another thing on the list is rework rear shocks to get lower mounts above bottom of axle tube line. This will require shorter shocks or running shocks through the floor.. I haven't got much farther than thinking about that project.

Truss is leftover from 2x8 rocker sliders. Bought a 20ft stick Was worried this upper weld might crack it didnt so called it good. A trained eye may notice the top of houseing was flushed about to get a nice tight truss fit up.
Still need to build brake lines. Then get new rotors splash some paint and get to work on front 30. Debating on putying a Detroit in it or leaving it open. Might see if i can rais the control arm mounts on axle to get flatt angles and less brackets to dragg on rocks.
Couple more photos. I did have to grind out a few cracked welds so when I pulled of this truss to upper housing weld with no crack I called it good instead of going for more.
trussleft overs from my 2x8 rocker sliders. usually get 20ftsticks cheaper or at the samecost as cut to order.
