how do you bypass the front clip ? just take it off? the little hook thing right in the middle of the hood in the front.

JeepCoMJ did this a few years ago. He used the mounts and shocks off of a 97+ rear hatch. Worked well he picked it all up at a JY for cheep. If I remember right it was blot on. And heat dose not bother it at all. Some hoods on cars are like that from the factory

wouldn't u need a failsafe? what if the latch breaks, or something going 60mph down the road. i know it's highly unlikely, but that's why the factory has a failsafe on it. maybe a secondary cable to release the other lever.

^I wouldn't be surprised if those loosen up after a while. I did the same thing on mine but with Infinity Q45 struts (Thread here). Our stock hood is pretty heavy and I actually needed to make a sandwich plate for my brackets to help spread the load into the thin sheet metal. Yours look like they might have a stronger punch than mine. Pictures of the mounting and install orientation please! I retained my safety latch tho... Helps when you're on the trail and need a little extra ventilation but don't want the hood popping up. Originally Posted by Mad Max

I didn't bypass the latch at all. I still have it. If I pull out on the hood latch handle lightly, the latch will release but the safety catch still does it's job. If I pull out on the handle firmly and quickly, it will pop open fast enough to bypass the safety latch. The shocks are worn out by hatch standards, but have more than enough force to still pop the hood. I have never had the hood pop open on it's own so I don't think there is a safety issue here. Since this is getting alot of interest, I will post some pics with measurements.Originally Posted by 4x4cherokeexj

Helps when you're on the trail and need a little extra ventilation but don't want the hood popping up. Well I hope this pic helps. When the shock is fully extended, the distance from eye to eye should be 22 inches. Also, the distance from the top eye to the bottom of the hood back edge should be 21 1/4 inches. On the passenger side there is some doodad that is bolted on with two bolts and I just used one of those bolts to hold down the shock mount and machine screwed the other side. Coincidently the bracket on the bottom is right up against the seam of the back firewall and the fender. I didn't get it right the very first time. This was the result of a few tries but it does obviously work for my setup. I hope this helps.

Once I pull the lever from inside, it pops up as normal, then I release the safty latch from under the hood and the hood lifts up by itselfOriginally Posted by Mad Max
