Automated Hood Shocks

3 Attachment(s)
Here's some pics and a video of my hood shocks in action. I saw this on a site and decided to give it a try. I found some mounts from an old Oldsmobile and used an old set of hatch shocks to come up with a pretty cool mod. the guys at the oil change shop really get a hoot when they ask me to pop the hood and it actually will!

Very nice! Any pics of the passenger side? I ask only because I relocated the windshield washer reservoir for the snorkel. Thanks!

It's identical to the passenger side. All mounting spots are the same. I can post pics if you still want them though.

Don't remember actually, but it doesn't really matter. Just scrounge around and find mounts that bolt on. I used self tapping machine screws to attach them to the hood and fender. Even the Auto Parts store sells screw in mounts I think.

I just bummed around my local JY and found the one's I have. Probably took me at least a half hour to find them. I am sure other cars have them, but most have the post integrated into the body. I do think it was trunk mounts though, not hood. Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

it would probably work with the coil type that chevys used to use

just a thought, what about the heat from the engine? idk if it would effect them at all. just wouldnt want one to explode or something under the hood

I have had these on for almost a year. It was one of the first mods I did when I got my Jeep. No explosion yet!

I got some rough measurements from another site, but then it was just trial and error. As long as the shock is fully extended when you mount it, the hood should be able to close fully. Look close at my pics. I use an existing bolt on the passenger side lower mount. That should get you started. Then look where I position the upper mount. I will measure it tomorrow and post the measurement.
