I posted this in my build thread but figure more people might be interested in seeing the process.
Thought of this one weeknight and started building the parts list as the next couple days followed. I was getting tired of strapping the 35" spare down in the back and having it move around on me by the end of the wheeling day. I did fishplate the bends with 3/16" and 1/8" plate to strengthen it. Adding rubber bumpers to the hatch and the bumper so I don't hit the hatch, adds tension to the top half to stop movement and on the bumper to stop the swing out from making contact with the tail light when fully opened. My bumper is 3/16" but I do plan on adding a support that'll bolt to the rear crossmember.
Parts:
AtoZ standard spindle kit
AtoZ Spare mount plate
3 oem front wheel studs
Amazon hinge latch rated up to 2000lbs
Harbor Freight spring latch
2x2" 1/8" tube
2x3 1/8" tube
Autozone license plate light
