Roof rack made to my design, just how I like it. Though I would share it with everyone, as the first part of the project is complete.

So here is the project in a flash: Welded the base of the rack up, then welded the siderails. made the gutter mounts, welded everything, and sprayed some paint.

Here are the before and afters of the jeep, and a pic of my re-purposed hitch lock welded on to secure the Hi-Lift.

Nice. Totally changes the look of your jeep. I really like you highlift locking system. I think I might steal that idea for mine

Close up of gutter mounts please? I like the rack, I need ideas on how to mount one sturdy... also where do y'all find the isolator pad on the high lift that holds the handle and keeps it steady?

Good looking rack man. Really like the mount as well. Doing anything for mounting lights on the rack?

Keep it up, looks tough on your XJ.

I'll get a clear close-up of the gutter mounts this week, the first one i took was out of focus. Thanks for all the compliments. I will indeed be adding a light bar, thats what us up with the open front. Gotta take a tube to the fab shop to be bent tho. I'll also be adding water/gas reserve tanks and a spare mount w/ lock as well.

Yeah, it was a random stroke of genius. Just be sure to get a 1/2 inch instead of the standard 5/8.

Very nice build! I build one for my 83 Landcruiser in 2005 just like that. As much as I like roof racks, I have found out how inconvenient they can be when you store your tire and hi lift up there and you need both while in the middle of a boulder field or canyon. Makes it tough to get to and a PITA to have to lift a 35" tire up there. Great work though!! Looks good!
