Default Another Homemade roof rack

Well I had some angle steel one that was not big enough, too heavy and well it looked like a basket on top. So I decided to build one on my own. I used 3/4" diameter EMT for the bottom and 1/2" EMT for the top ring. I think it turned out good, I also welded in some flat steel for the light mounts and made a custom 3/16" and 1/4" tire mount for the spare. Here are the pics

Started with this sorry it is not step by step.

Next all the frame was done and I tried out some paint, used rustoleum bedliner, bonded with the galvanized very well

after all that I would grind down the tube to accommodate some flat 3/16" steel to mount the front lights, I did not want any tabs sticking out for the front so I just welded in some flat to the round bar.

Then was the rear tabs which I did have steel sticking out, I am going to mount some of the KC flood/reverse lights back there.

Last was the Tire mount, I used some 1/4" thick steel and mounted wheel studs in them and welded them in, then used two pieces of flat steel to mount between the bars for strength then mounted two pieces of angle to the two flat steel. Then the flat 1/4" was mounted to the two pieces of angle. Here that is

Here are the rest, more will come as well, I am building my own gutter mounts (using a 6 point).

That's fantastic. Nice welds.

Just need some mounts on the sides for more "goodies" like the jack, shovel, bar-b-que ... communication devices .... you know, the basics.

Great welds, I never have good welds with galvanized unless I grind the galvanize off first. Nice design with the sloping front to clear the lights.

Nice looking roof rack so far. Keep us updated. I'm going to copy your idea to an extent I think. Exeptak the rack just a little lower profile. Same concept though I guess as any emt roofrack. I really like the slope in the from also.
