I know, just making sure he doesn't go spend money on a d44 or something when he doesn't need to.

fair enough point.

and, if he is only planning to run 33-35" tires he could get away with finding a junkyard 29spline 8.25.

it would bolt right in (with new u bolts). and the axle shafts are cheap and easy to find if one ever breaks

d35's arent 30 spline

and also, youre one of the lucky ones. ive personally seen 31's snap a shaft under moderate wheeling

Also You have to weld th F@@K out of it, not just some tac weld's I personally wouldn't weld 1 unless it had the bolt in axles. The c clip type you are asking for trouble.

Even the bolt in versions were 27 spline and the ring gear size is also a weak link.

Not to thread jack but I have a stupid question to ask. I plan on axle swaps soon so my question is, when welding on the coil spring cups and leaf perches so you put the angle parallel to the pinion angle?

i don't know what you're trying to ask, but when you set coil spring perches, keep in mind that control arm angle and geometry is more important than your spring perch position. not saying to disregard the spring perch position, but keep in mind that the coil sprung suspension locates and articulates off the control arms.
but just for a reference, the easiest way to set up any pinion angle is to take off the diff cover, and set an angle finder on the straight surface and set 2 more angle finders, one on each perch. have a buddy keep an eye on straightness on one side, you on the other.
but prior to all of this, you have to have base angles from your existing setup and factor in your lift.

in the middle of swapping out a dana 35 for an 8.8, does not seem to be that hard but that doesn't mean it wont require some work. if your lucky like me you can pick up a decent 8.8 w/ an LSD and disc brakes for $100. well worth it to me over a dana 35.

x2, good swap.

a little grinding, and welding on new spring perches and shock mounts and you've got a very stout axle for very little money
