Default 99 cherokee axel swap

Ok i have a 99 cherokee that i am strickly using for offroad. i wanted to weld the rear for better offroad capabilities but ive been reading and talked to many people about welding the dana 35 (stock axel) and ive been hearing nothing but bad news about it. That will willl pretty much just blow up. So now my question is what is the best set up for 99 cherokee in the rear that wont be a huge money investment. i also looking for something that doesnt deal with many fabications. Ive been seeing that alot of people been putting ford 8.8 rear axels in their cherokee but they convert them over to disk brakes. What else do you have to do when converting them over?

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice about this situation
Or what has anyone else do to their ride

Let me know

yes you just have to flip the spring mounts on the i got my 8.8 for $150
look here http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/...D60-PERCH.html
You will want to weld the axle housing to the tubes there are only three rossett welds that hold it in place

If your looking to do the most simple swap you should look into a d44 or c8.25 since they are both bolt in. Put a spool in for $100 instead of welding but thats just my opinion. I think if your going to do it you may as well do it right.

if you find a 8.8 out of a later model explorer you will have disc brakes along with the 31 spline axleshafts.

but, you will have to grind off all the old mounts on the axle and weld on new leaf spring perches and shock mounts.

and unless you find an 8.8 with the same gear ratio as your front axle then you will have to regear.

its worth the time and money if you can do it, because it is much stronger than the d44 and 8.25

for "some" 8.8 swaps you can use your stock driveshaft and the 8.8/1310 flange.
and the spring perches are the spring mounts.

you wont know 100% about the driveshaft length until the axle is all bolted up.

the bronco lift wont matter, you are not using bronco springs. you will be using whatever leaf springs are on your XJ

Doubtful and is it a full size Bronco or the Ranger size Bronco 2. Full size will be roughly 6" wider than your current axle and the Bro 2 has 28 spline shafts, if it's an 8.8 and not the 7.5, and is almost as weak as a D35.

You sure you have a d35? Mose 99's came with a c8.25 29 spl. What size tires you plan on running?
