98 Sport with Bushwacker flares...looking for some info
Hi there, new to the site and wanted to say hello and ask a few ?'s.
Ok so me and a friend tackled something ive been wanting to do for a very long time. I recently found some used bushwhacker fender flares on craigslist for pretty cheap, and added them on to my XJ. They were obviously fitted for the 84-96 jeeps and with minor modification I was able to make them fit.
NOTE: we had to cut the rear 2 peice section of flares to properly fit the well...so that it would fit the door and correctly fit the back part of the well.
Anyway from here im wondering what size tire i can get away with without going for a lift. Also wondering if i should just bite at this point and pickup a 3'' lift kit. Can anyone reccomend a failry easy and cheap kit? Never done a project like that before and since im fairly new to those types of things im not sure what to expect.
If i go with the 3'' lift can i get away with a 33-35'' tire?
Any recommendations on a tire?

Ive got the stock tires/rims on there and looks slightly funny as it doesnt fill out the newly spaces the fender offers. lol

I don't think you are gonna be able to pull off 35's without a **** ton of rub I have a 6in. lift with 35's and I just barely pull that off. My fenders are hacked like crazy you might get away with 33's you will still have some rub but if you want optimum flex with a 3in. lift I would shoot for 30's or 31's. If your looking for a decent low price kit check out these sites I would recommend shooting for the full leaf packs add a leafs wear out fast.

If your willing to spend a couple extra bucks check out these sites they are gonna cost a little more but like everyone says you get what you pay for.

Hey thanks! appreciate the feedback and thanks for the info on the websites.
BTW do you think i can fit a 31'' tire without a lift? I DID do trimming to the wheel well to fit the bushwackers on and for some reason i remember reading somewhere i could get away with it but had to ask since i cant locate that info.
thinking i might have a lot of rubbing if i dont get a lift ..even with just a 31''
BTW: is the stock tire (225) a 29'' tire??

My 235/75/r15 stockers are 28.8" tires, so yours will be smaller. I wouldn't do anything else without lifting it, IMO it looks a little weird as is and even if you could fit 31"s... It'll look like a turtle... Haha.
That aside, rare color jeep! Looks cool! And I like the clear corners

Ok man. Im sure you can pull 33's and 3" lift no problem. WIth the wackers you prob can. It opens the fenders alot! I dont think you can put 35's on and a 3" lift with wackers. Not enough room.
Heres a guy over on naxja. 3.5" lift and 35's.

Its do able. Its just the matter of time and effort you wana put into it. Im running at 5" and just put 35's on, with wackers. I spaced the wheels out so Im sitting pretty wide but I have no problems at all. I would go with 33's for now man and see how they fit. I had 33's with and my wackers when I was at 4"

That's not to bad of a beginner lift. One thing though. Do not go with a block for the rear. Never use blocks they are a bad idea. I would add a leaf then get a shackle of you can float the money for it. Do it right the first time so you don't have to keep putting more and more lifts on. Trust me how I know that lol.
Yes 33's will fit on a 15" rim no problem. I'm running 35's with 15" rims. You'll be fine.
