I just made a couple sketches and made it piece-by-piece after i mounted the brackets. I would measure out what i needed and put the rough shape onto a piece of cardboard. From there you can adjust the cardboard piece how you like and trace it onto the steel when you are ready. I'm limited in my tools to a sawzall, angle grinder, and welder basically so I couldn't make precise cuts all at once. My technique was more more cut, tack, weld, cut tack, weld, a couple pieces at a time to avoided any amplification of errors in dimensions.

Bumper is all finished with a few coats of bedliner, I'll have pics of it mounted when the weather is nicer. I decided to ditch the two supports since they were hitting the grille slightly and I didnt feel like welding galvanized thin wall to 1/4th inch steel.

That looks killer.

If I build a bumper someday it'll look similar to yours.

Quote: Bumper looks awesome! I'm debating on making my own as well. I have access to a welder, grinders, wire wheels....ton of stuff. I'm just not good at welding yet. Need practice. But you give me hope and make me wanna give it a shot. Can't wait to see if finished and on!
Get yourself some scrap to practice on and just keep doing line after line after line until you get the hang of it then move on to something more complex. Tons of good videos on youtube that will teach you all kinds of tips and techniques.

If you really wanna learn see if you have a local tech center. We have one here that's $350 a semester one night a week and they provide everything and let you bring in your own material if you want to build something in class.

Well I never really understood why people need two to be honest. Maybe in a situation where you are being pulled at an angle but idk. Having one in the middle distributes the force equally to both brackets where having a d-ring on each bracket puts most of the pulling force on the single bracket it attaches to. Plus having one just makes it different

Haha yeah Fishies it gets the job done, I look forward to getting a mig in the future though. And ColoradoCorey I would love to one day but with the tools I have now it just wouldnt be worth it. I'm an engineering student and an aspiring machinist/metal fabricator so maybe one day!
