im looking to get a new jeep and im looking at the new Liberty. I want to get the 5-speed manual, 4x4, because i have six miles of dirt road everyday with a few steep hills. and in the winter i like to just crawl down the hills because they get really nasty. so i was wondering if anyone has had a chance to drive one on hills and such and if so, how much hold back does it have in 1st gear? the dealer wont let me test drive it all the way to my house let alone the dirt road so if anyone has experenced it or know people who have, it would be great to get some feedback. thanks in advance!

It's a good thing that they came factory with a brake pedal.
I'm sure with it being a 5 speed and a low rev engine that you'd have the typical amount of engine braking capability.
I didn't even know they made a manual transmission Liberty.

If your going anything other than an xj id suggest a wrangler...if your wanting to avoid the jk's then look into a commander (they stopped making them in 2010). I have a commander (XK) and love it...gas mileage is worst of the worst but its a super comfortable ride and has a good bit of space. The new GC's are sweet too..make sure you get one with the quadra-drive II.
