Drivers window broken on '98 Cherokee Sport
Hey Everyone!
The driver's side window on my 98' Cherokee Sport finally broke after intermittently working for a couple week. It is currently open. So far I checked out the fuse which is fine, as well as checking out any wires, most of which I cant see. There are no obvious breaks at any of the connections or harnesses. All of the other windows work, and all of the buttons of the master control switch function, except for the drivers window and the window lock switch. Thinking the switch was faulty, I swapped it out for a new one, but unfortunately the new switch still can't operate the drivers window or the window lock. I'm a newb, but trying to learn more and fix what I can before taking it in.
I appreciate it if anyone has any ideas on where I should go from here while I have the door panel off!
Thanks in advance!
Ben

I this were me I would see if power is getting to the window regulator at the connector to the window regulator motor.
Going to need a meter.
If you determine there is power chances are the motor crapped out.
I would double check that by supplying power to the motor.
This would require you to supply a 12V run source to it.
I own one of those little jump boxes. Perfect for doing stuff like this.
Doesn't matter how you hook up power and ground.
You just want to see if the window moves.
Now for the tough part. Assuming it is the motor. Easiest thing would be to buy a whole new regulator.
The window regulator itself was messed up in my '00 XJ. Motor was fine. So I bought a Dorman one.
Well in 7 years I am on my third one. They have a lifetime warranty so it is not really a big deal.
But the quality sucks.
Where I am going with this is that if it is the motor and the regulator is fine maybe it would be better to just source a Mopar motor.
Next time my Dorman one craps out I am thinking about biting the bullet for the cost and giving this one a try.

When I got my 99 XJ, the window was about 3/4 of the way up. I tried to close it with the switch and got nothing, if I tried to open it more it barely moved. All of my other windows moved normally. I went the cheap way and pulled one from the local Upullit parts. Has worked great since.
I think I paid $24 for the complete regulator with the motor.
My guess is the motor died on you.
