A Cardan Joint and a CV (Constant Velocity) are two different things. The upper drive shaft contains a Double Cardan Joint. CV joints are found on the axles. Early Cherokees don't have CV joints. A Cardan Joint is simply a Universal Joint (U joint). A CV joint slides inside the joint to maintain the same acceleration and torque through the bend and is most often covered with a rubber boot to keep the dirt out.

00-01 XJ, 93-98 ZJ, 97-06 TJ axles are identical (LP axles). 99-04 WJ front axles are still LP but wider.
