All of the new Jeep vehicles are awful looking. Only one I would consider for off road would be a JK. The GC SRT8 is cool for street but the newest models look like a minivan.
A Jeep has a mechanical transfer case and two solid axles. The JK is the only Jeep that Jeep makes anymore. The rest are just "Jeep Vehicles", as they are cars and crossovers with the Jeep name on them.

I don't even care for the new srt8. Looks like a minivan that someone tried to turn into a hot rod.

I'd rather take the Patriot. They are quality literally the same thing as a Compass.
Patriot is trail rated, has a low range.
Compass at least has a locker for 4Hi, while the GC does not.
I am not a huge fan of GC's 4x4 systems.
Quadra-Trac II is full time AWD, but sends 100% of power to the rear. Sends power to front when it detects slippage. Lockers engage only in 4Lo. No 4Hi.
Quadra-Drive II is full time AWD. 48% front / 52% rear split that can sent more power front or back depending on slippage. Lockers engage only in 4Lo. No 4Hi
The diffs are only lockers in 4Lo which is gay. Though they may have auto locking diffs as an option maybe? What happened to lockers in 4Hi? Liberty and Wrangler have 4Hi with lockers, but they lack AWD. Whatever happened to the best of all worlds and the NP242? AWD, and lockers for 4Hi and 4Lo.
The Patriot and Compass have AWD with 100% torque to FWD, unless slippage. But they can at least lock the diffs without a Lo range. Patriot offers a Lo range over the Compass.
I think that I might actually prefer a Patriot over a GC for off-roading. Smaller, narrow, lighter, and just as capable as all the other Jeeps.

Actually I think that the Compass this year got the Freedom Drive II 4x4, so now has a Lo range. The Patriot still looks cooler, and is cheaper to boot.

Dont you tell me what I can and can not say. This is a free country if I remember right, and I was not verbally abusing you or your family. Its a commonly used word. No offense or anything, but get over it. Don't use the "oh, I have a disabled person in my family" bs either. I have a mentally challenged step-brother. He's like 33 now iirc with the brain of a 6 year old on a good day. I don't even remotely get offended unless the words are targeted directly towards him.

Activate the off-road mode by pulling up on the chrome T-handle switch labeled 4WD LOCK in the center console. This mode dictates that the electronic system sends the maximum amount of torque to the rear axle for improved traction.
An electronically controlled coupling, which is attached to the rear differential, is the heart of the Freedom Drive II system. The electronic control module processes signals from the wheel speed sensors and the accelerator pedal to determine how much torque to transfer to the rear wheels, then sends an electrical current to the ECC that is proportional to the amount of torque required. Recommended for true off-road situations including steep grades, wheel lift and rock or log climbing, the Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package includes a second-generation continuously variable transaxle with a 19:1 crawl ratio (CVT2L) that engages when the off-road mode is activated.
vs
This active full-time system functions in all-wheel-drive until additional traction is needed, then reacts by electronically engaging the clutch pack to transfer up to 100% of the torque to either axle. This system also features 2.72:1 LOW-RANGE and NEUTRAL.

Thank you. Well put.
I had one of these in Miami this last week as a rental car and wow....... FWD!!! that was wierd. The thing is peppy but overall I hate it. I hated it with a passion. I honestly think it is an utter disgrace to have a jeep label on it...

If you want me to use kinder words, how about you do it yourself? Mentally handicapped like you stated is considered to be inappropriate just like retarded is these days. Please don't use those words. Use kinder words if you could. Dont be a cold hearted guy.
red dog the Liberty has the 231 or 242(full time 4wd), dunno bout the rest though...
dont really have lockers either its brake lock diff. if the system recognizes wheel spin it will apply break on that corner to get the other free tire to spin with it. it does a pretty good job at it actually, however some people hate it and they will pull the abs fuse.
