THey were both offered at the same time for 2wd, however the Comache was actually pushed as a 2wd with 4x4 optional. so that is why I say the comache

But it was never offered with a straight axle. That's my point.

I believe that the first 2wd Jeep was the Jeepster first offered back in 1948.

i would rather have a GC than a compass at least the GC can still offroad some.

I'd rather take the Patriot. They are quality literally the same thing as a Compass.

Patriot is trail rated, has a low range.
Compass at least has a locker for 4Hi, while the GC does not.

I am not a huge fan of GC's 4x4 systems.
Quadra-Trac II is full time AWD, but sends 100% of power to the rear. Sends power to front when it detects slippage. Lockers engage only in 4Lo. No 4Hi.

Quadra-Drive II is full time AWD. 48% front / 52% rear split that can sent more power front or back depending on slippage. Lockers engage only in 4Lo. No 4Hi

The diffs are only lockers in 4Lo which is gay. Though they may have auto locking diffs as an option maybe? What happened to lockers in 4Hi? Liberty and Wrangler have 4Hi with lockers, but they lack AWD. Whatever happened to the best of all worlds and the NP242? AWD, and lockers for 4Hi and 4Lo.

The Patriot and Compass have AWD with 100% torque to FWD, unless slippage. But they can at least lock the diffs without a Lo range. Patriot offers a Lo range over the Compass.

I think that I might actually prefer a Patriot over a GC for off-roading. Smaller, narrow, lighter, and just as capable as all the other Jeeps.

Actually I think that the Compass this year got the Freedom Drive II 4x4, so now has a Lo range. The Patriot still looks cooler, and is cheaper to boot.
