My wife's car went in for a full tune up, the "mechanic" said the air filter was a dealer part and was $400! And it's under lifetime warranty, anyone know of this?

 

I've never heard of this till now and I work on a ton of fords. Hope this helps ya.

Lifetime service air filter? yea right. I have replaced a couple, even though they last a long time they were well overdue

There is an air filter restiction guage on the breather box that you can check to see if the filter is restricted, this type of guage is what you typically see on full size trucks, particularly diesel trucks. You can reset the guage by pressing the button on the end. This type of guage gets its best reading at heavy to WOT under load.
When its time to replace the filter you either need to get the aftermarket housing to allow replaceable elements or get a full cold air kit. RockAuto has the best price for the Dorman kit part# 258-519

I was going to replace my air filter on my 05 focus. Was told the same thing look at the gauge on the air intake if its red. Time to open up the wallet and replace it. Or due like I did buy a K&N
