2002 Isuzu Rodeo timing belt question
Just bought a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport 3.2L 4x4 has 99K on it . This is a new breed for me . Going to do the timing belt , water pump , tensioner and all idler pulleys as a preventative maintnance and the 100K factory rec ( and the fact it,s a interference engine ) . Looked at Gates and Dayco kits , not sure which one to go with ? Being a semi retired auto/truck technition never did a belt on a 3.2L while still in the shop , How difficult are they to replace ? ( Not a lot in the way of the front cover ) Referencing all timing marks is crucial I know , do the cams like to roll on this when the tension is removed from the belt ? Any tips and advice would be appricated . Got a service / repair manual coming . Thanks

I know I have done at least 2 of those and nothing comes to mind on difficulty. You might consider replacing the water pump too while you are in there. Tensioners are known for failure on this engine so replace that too. The cams might turn slightly, no big deal just turn them back before installing the belt. I never used Dayco kits so I have no opinion, but I have never had problems using Gates products.
Here is a link to a honda bulletin, which they used that engine in the passports. There is a bunch of info you dont need but it has good details on the timing belt stuff.

Thanks for the reply . Going to order the Gates Timing Kit from RockAuto tomorrow . It has the power grip belt , pump ( with metal impeller ) , gasket , 2 idlers and hydralic tensioner . Total cost to my door 159.93 . Called the part houses all over 200.00 plus . Didn't think it was that tricky but never hurts to ask .
