Default Belt Tension on a Renix

Hey dudes,
When tightening my belt, the bottom bracket that the tensioner bolt threads through is so tight it's just about at the edge. When I check the tension with my Krikit gauge, it is showing about just shy of 120 lbs. Has anyone experienced this before? I could tighten this up to 160 before if I wanted to(which is way way too tight but I am using that example for illustration) and the bracket wouldn't be nearly as far down as it is now on the track.

I am wondering if maybe I am missing a sequence or something?

Hope I explained this clearly enough lol

Anyway, thanks in advance

Easy thing to do would be to buy a shorter belt. http://autorepair.about.com/library/...s/42163954.gif Newer Cherokees have an idler between water pump and power steering instead of using power steering pump to provide tension.

Renix shouldn't be that much different from my 91. The trick is to make the power steering reservoir pivot to tighten the belt. There are 4 bolts which needs to loosen. The top bolt holding the reservoir (pivot point), two bolts in the back of the bracket and one bolt below where the adjusting bolt/collar goes through. See picture. Bolts are in red. Not my photo.

Awesome diagram thanks. I'm gonna get a shorter belt today and see how that goes. Thanks again.
