ZJ: what driveshaft?

Year: 87 cherokee and 02 grand
Model: Cherokee
Engine: 4.0L I6 EFI "Power Tech" - 177 hp @ 4750 rpm, 220 ft lb @ 4000 rpm
ZJ: what driveshaft?
My brother in law somehow lost his rear driveshaft in his ZJ, and I'm trying to find him one on craigslist. Does anyone know exactly which drive shaft he had? Or how to find out?
Also.. how the heck does a driveshaft just fall off? He had it in 4wd at the time, and says he heard some noise, then it stopped so he kept on driving to work.
