Hey all, couple quick questions. I want to build a roof rack but gutter mounts are out since I don't have any gutters. I don't like the idea od setting a rack on my cross bars (had a sheet of ply wood tear both cross bars off- who would have geussed going highway speeds would give the lift to rip those off....lol), dont trust them. Is my only option to use the bolts that anchor the rails to the roof? Also what size are those bolts, if any knows?

 

when i built mine i just ran a bolt right threw one of the horizontal pieces of the rack and one of the crossrails. so i have four 1/2 bolts holding it to my cross rails. im not saying this is a good way or even safe way, but ive been running that for over two years now

 

I have a tire rack on mine thats just bolted to the cross bars and i havent had a problem with it, its been there for over a year.
