I stumbled on some conversation yesterday on a non-Jeep forum regarding adding zinc to motor oil. Perhaps that has been discussed here as well. I am not a chemist or a mechanic. I got quickly overwhelmed not only trying to determine if there was any validity (other than personal opinion and hype from various products) in adding zinc. But also which products to consider or trust. There were so many products, so many prices for seemingly the same thing ,but how much, to add without adding to little, or too much and perhaps blowing out the catalytic converter or creating a situation where a vehicle could not pass smog tests if your location requires them.

All I can say about additives for motor oil is the only one I EVER used was STP and that was worthless. I think a good grade of regular motor oil changed regularly works and has in every engine I've ever owned.
Again, this is a discussion that's been WAY overdone and we don't need another one. Just saying.
What you really need is an ashless dispersant oil, ie, one that holds all impurities in suspension and burns with no ash. Just about every motor oil made today is this type of oil.
