Default XJ seats in a WJ

I've got a problem with my butt getting sore in my WJ because of the design of the seat with it's thigh bolsters and kidney supports. I never had this problem with my ZJ and was wondering if the high-backed seats from an XJ would fit in it. The reason I said XJ is because my WJ doesn't have power seats and most ZJs I've looked at do. I found a nice pair in a '97 XJ at pick&pull but they won't be there long. They only want $15 each for them.

I asked at the dealer about the fit and they said no because they changed the floor pan. Yeah, they made it wider, so what. I was at the yard for some other parts and didn't have a tape measure with me, but the '03 WJ right beside it had the seats removed and the bolt pattern looks the same.

I just wondered if anybody knows for sure. I'm tempted to just grab them anyhow and do what I have to to mount them.

I'm pretty sure those XJ seats will fit, you might have to swap the brackets.

I don't know, Busted. I just got back from Pick&Pull and it doesn't look like they're even close! The bolt pattern is very close, but the XJs carriage and tracks are totally different. The floor pan has a large bulge in it to clear the transfer case and the WJ doesn't, so the mounting for the XJ is way off center. If I bolted them in I'd have to remove the console and then I wouldn't be sitting behind the wheel! I guess I'll just have an upholstery shop recover the seat so it's flat. I can deal with the kidney supports.

I could see if the XJs upper would fit on the WJs carriage, but I'd have to buy one of both to mess around with so I can still drive this thing in the meantime. At the moment, this yard only has one WJ and somebody already took the driver's seat. What I found amusing is it's a 4.7 and someone took one head.

Will the seat base unbolt from the WJ seay and bolt onto the XJ seat?

People have swapped WJ seats into XJs by switching the seat brackets I don't see why the reverse can't happen. The XJ seats (I believe) are more narrow than WJs so I don't think there would he any problem with the center console.

I really don't know but I'll assume it will, but as I said, I need to drive my WJ while I figure it out. The problem is the XJ base is not centered under the seat cushion and the mounting bolts are closer to the door than they are in the WJ. I saw an XJ in the yard with the WJ style seats in it, but I don't know what year it was because most of the front end and driver's door were missing. It was a Cherokee Sport. They also had the XJ base.

And I thought this would be easy. Oh, wait! this is a jeep after all.

I would try making it work in the JY. Take an XJ seat out, bolt WJ brackets on it and see if it fits in a WJ at the JY then there'd be no experimenting with your ride until you know it will work.

Un bolt the 4-13mm bolts holding the seat to the track and swap them. It will work. They may sit about 1inch shorter in your WJ tho. I know my WJ seats in my XJ sit about 1 inch taller.

WJ seats are way better than XJ seats.

Needs to be 95+ XJ

95+ I believe, my 91 seat brackets aren't like my 99 or the 95 parts jeep.

Now why didn't I think of that? I could do it with the passenger's seat in the JY! There is only one WJ there and the driver's seat is already gone. Thanks, sometimes you need another head in the think tank. If it doesn't rain, I'll go back tomorrow. BTW, the seat mounting bolts in the WJ are 15mm and in the XJ are 5/8.

For most people the WJ seats are better, but not for a 70 year old man who's 5'6" and 254 lbs with a wide butt! I also have a pinched nerve in my hip. The other problem I have is when I deliver my newspapers, I can't slide over against the door panel to reach some of the mailboxes. I could in my ZJ.

The left side thigh bolster is crushing from getting in and out of my WJ and I find this is a common problem with them. That's probably why the '02 in the yard is missing the driver's seat.

Seat to tracks are 13mm on both. I wasn't refering to removing tracks from the jeeps. I left tracks in the donor vehicle and just removed seat from the tracks.

Lol it wasn't that bad. Actually ended up my only option. I couldn't get either driver side doors open. I was 350lbs at the time.
