Wow! Found the fuel filter
After being told at least 3x by JEEP that the fuel filter was inside the tank I found the damn thing. Was changing the rear axle fluid and there it was. I was looking right at. It hasn't been changed since 2004 and I've been wanting to. I tell ya! Drop the tank and empty the fuel to access it??? Really??

X2 I used an aftermarket on my '92 Laredo when I had it and it ran worse. It is odd, I got ahold of Jeep and got an OEM and it was great.

Filter/Regulator from the dealer is $96 in WI and .4 hours to install. Funny how the Lead Service Adviser had no idea that this existed. The parts dept. had no problem looking it up and finding it. To top that I brought in a steering shock to have installed and the tech claimed the hardware that came with the KYB shock was incorrect. Nice how I didn't get the hardware back. The bolt at one end was rusted and rounded off. Great! There going to install a new bolt. The filter I am checking other places or get someone to do it for $10 or $20.

Old fart with a wrench
Can it be possible the problem with aftermarket is in the pressure regulator? I know my Dodge Caravan's pressure regulator was in the filter.

Possible, I have never cracked one open to find out... Guess I will when I replace this one, also to the guy wanting pics, I have an XJ so the spot maybe diffrent. Just crawl under it and follow the line, you will know it when you see it.

Considering getting a WIX filter. Have heard good things about their stuff for years. I could buy 5 of them to 1 at dealer cost.

I don't know what you found but please post a pic. The pump isn't technically inside the tank. The reason for emptying the tank (ie-running it until it's below 1/4 of a tank) is because you have to drop the tank to get to it and it's a lot lighter almost empty as opposed to completely full. Some guys on another forum talked about cutting through the spare tire well to gain access from above but I've never seen it done. I had to change my pump out due to someone putting a barcode label in my tank prior to me buying it which caused it to stall randomly and had to change mine out.
My bad thought you were talking fuel pump.
