Howdy everyone!

I'm new here, hopefully looking for some answers to some jeep related problems I'm having.

My girlfriend not too long ago bought a 2004 WJ which now has about 90,000 miles on it. It's having transmission problems but not what I'd consider usual for a Grand Cherokee.

The problem we've been having is on the highway, at speed. It seems to be in the range of 40mph+ that the truck just will not downshift no matter how much throttle is used. However the problem is intermittent. Merging onto the highway after a mile or two of rural driving and it will not downshift. Slow to a stop as if you were getting off the highway and it downshifts quite naturally.

Does this seem like a problem of the throttle positioning sensor? Or maybe a speed sensor or a shift solenoid?

I'd be grateful for any amount of help. Thanks so much everyone.

 

I would suspect the throttle trans control cable. Check for proper adjustment or breakage possibly inside the trans.
