Default WJ not shifting into overdrive!!

Alright this is my first post here as I just got my first WJ a couple of days ago. Its a 2000 Laredo 4.7.. I got it for a steal at $1700 with only 79000 miles on it.. It was owned by a older man who didn't wanna pay to get the work done and wasn't able to do the work himself anymore.. Body is in great shape but it does need a little TLC.. The old guy believes the tranny was shot..

The problem its having is that when i'm driving and OD is on it will not shift into 4th gear.. It starts to buck and quickly downshifts to 2nd.. It had about 25 codes thrown when i got it.. I replaced the TPS and cleaned the TB as well as changed the spark plugs and Ignition coils on 3 and 5 where it was misfiring.. The MIL went off for a couple days and now its back..

Now i only have 6 codes which are:

ABS code 14 cluster malfunction
p1792 battery power to module disconnected
P0734 4th gear incorrect ratio--it says pending
p1790 malfunction immediately after shift
p0733 3rd gear incorrect ratio-- It also says pending
p0303 cylinder 3 misfire detected--MIL code 43

I drive with OD off that way it doesn't start kicking and bucking because from what I've read 4th gear is only used when OD is on

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated..I can record it and post a video if needed.. Can't wait to get this thing running great so i can start doing some mods and maybe a little off-roading

O/D IS 4th gear. The only thing higher is convertor lock-up. All lock-up does is eliminate the hydraulic slippage in the torque convertor, which is about 10% rpm. If you look at your shift selector, it says 2 when it's next down from D.

It may be the sprag clutch in the O/D section is shot. 3rd and 4th are electronically shifted, so it may just be a solenoid. I've never had the 42RE or the 46RE apart, so I don't know.

BTW, Welcome to CF! I've rebuilt many GM THM trannys, but never had a Mopar one apart. I can't say this enough. Make sure when checking fluid levels in these transmissions, do it in NEUTRAL, not park. It makes a big difference.

Ok i took a video of it this morning on the way to work to show you guys... It doesn't kick very hard but enough to make me jerk in my seat.. You dont see it until the end when the rpm starts to go up and down

And here is a picture of the tranny fluid cold before i left for work... I did put the car in neturel and checked it

From your pic, I question the battery cable clamp. It is stretched so the ends are tight together and the bolt isn't even tight! How did you start it?

I'm gonna change the battery clamps anyway when I do the big 3 upgrade and run my amp wire.. I disconnected the night before to reset the computer I took the pic before I tightened it down...

Yesterday I changed the transmission input and output speed sensor and still have the same issue.. The incorrect 3rd gear ratio code is gone tho.. But now I have a p0700 code.. Do you think I'll need a new shift solenoid pack??

I had a similar problem on my 97 ZJ, I replaced the solenoids in the tranny and the 3 to4 shift spring which was broken,. It's not a hard fix.
