Default Wheel lock nuts

Hi there. Wondering if any one has an online address to get a jeep ocking wheel nut removal tool. My studs on mine have broken and I don't really want to drill mine off unless I have to to got a new Mopar type nut kit to fit. Mine is an original Jeep tool with three studs on it. Jeep can't or won't sell me the tool over here in UK just the new type. If you know of anywhere would save me a hell of a lot of hair pulling. Mine is 2001 grand CherokeeThanks.

A lot of different options to go with depending on what kind of lock you have, might be easiest to buy a cheap chrome 12 pt. socket that just barely fits, hammer it on and take it off that way. Hopefully it wasn't over tightened.

Simply weld a nut to it and take it off that way. Because of the alloy wheels, use the largest nut that will fit a socket that fits into the wheel, then weld inside the nut.

Personally, I hate those things! I know they work for security, but I can't tell you how many times I've tried to help people on the road that couldn't find the key for them!

Gorilla Nuts makes some really nice ones and if you lose the key socket, just order a new one. Yours are 1/2-20 UNF I'm almost sure.

thanks for that. I can't believe I can't get a new socket from jeep but there you go. I just hope I don't get a puncture😜

Clue; wrap the socket in a red plastic bag and put it under the spare tire.

I'm guessing the PO didn't buy them from the dealer, or they weren't the style that the dealer sells.

In 16 years, it could be anything! Never "Assume" anything with a jeep! Unless you're the original owner! What I recommend is to switch them over to something that's going to be readily available for the near future.

If you have broken studs, it's a good idea to replace all of them. New front hub unit bearings come with new ones and your jeep could probably use new bearings anyway. In the rear, just drive them out and pull new ones in with a nut and spacer.

i second the 12 point socket. i've used this trick on many locking nuts for years where the socket key was lost when in the tow truck for roadside flat repair.
works almost every time. usually 12 point, 19mm or 3/4 socket.

the only time i couldn't get it to work was with a silly slim nut that had no taper.

I worked on an early Ford Taurus that had locking nuts that were so tapered NOTHING would possible grab onto it. Even a air chisel wouldn't touch them! The welded nut idea worked super!

I wonder does anyone know if the grand Jeep Cherokee comes with a locking wheel nut as original fitting if so is it the type I had here a socket with 3 studs on it that fit into a corresponding wheel lug with 3 holes in it?

Any help appreciated.
Paul.

Most cars never came from the factory with a locking lug nut on it.The dealer offered it as a add on the aftermarket has had them for a long long time.

If I buy a vehicle new or used with locking wheel nuts on it the first thing I do is remove them and replace with regular lug nuts. I'd rather have the small risk of having a wheel stolen than to be stranded in the middle of nowhere with a flat I couldn't change.
