What do you think about this 5.9L
How you all doing? IM in the market to buy a grand cherokee and what really caught my eye are the 1998 5.9l. I found one with 88,000 miles. Garage kept its whole life. Mint condition needs nothing. The rear end was rebuilt last year. Transfer case was replaced. Fuel pump was replaced. Interior has no cracks or rips. Body is dent and scratch free. Im looking to buy this as a daily and i need it to last me. He wont go lower then $5,800. Is this worth it or no? I cant find these things in this kind of shape anywhere.
Perfect! Yea it seems like a perfect jeep. Everything works heat, a/c, sunroof, all the windows go up and down. The guy kept it in great condition. Im just trying to make sure its a good deal before i settle for it.

Welcome to CF. Those were a very limited production, one year only Jeep, that was the quickest SUV produced until the SRT8 Hemi Grand Cherokee came out. That's not a bad price if it's as nice as you say, and has no issues at all. Nice, clean, low mileage, unaltered ones are getting hard to find.
Go here and look at these ads. There's a few listed ranging in price and condition. From a $1,200 one with a blown engine and other issues, to a nice one in Canada for $6,500 that's been lifted and has flares. >http://www.nagca.com/forum/forumdisp...=22&order=desc

Sounds nice but why did they have to replace the rear axle and t-case if it was take care of so well? Fuel pump I can see but axle and t-case means either proper maintance wasn't done or it has been ridden hard but doesn't show it.

With the HP that 360 makes, and 88,000 miles, replacing the D44a axle and 249 t-case were probably a good idea.

Just like anything else not all things are created equal. Just because the tcase and rear end have been replaced, both of which have been known to be problematic on the 5.9s specifically, doesnt mean it was ridden hard or improper maintenance.
That price is very reasonable IMO. Is it Platinum in color?

Yes it is platinum. I dont know why the t case was replaced but the rear was rebuilt because he wanted to freshen it up. He said nothing went wrong with it he was just trying to prevent anything from going wrong.

I just got one! Same color. Got it last week. 142k on it. Needs some minor work. This thing is incredible! I also have a 98 limited 4.0. The 5.9 is awesome, and believe it or not, I'm getting about the same if not a hair better MPG than the 4.0. The downside is you need premium, don't go cheap with midgrade, it will ping. (Ask me how I know). If you are wanting a ZJ then get the 5.9 unless you know you are going to hack and slash it into a trail rig.
