I need to know what this is, because i just noticed the hose is seperated from this connector and it appears to be contributing to the idle issue. I still need to clean the IAC (just unplugging it and plugging it back in made idle rpm change from 800 to 1500) but i really wanna know what this is while im fixing it.

Hey man, I'm not sure what that connects to... But what's the IAC?? Because mine idles at like 700 and I figured maybe it was plugs or injectors, but I'll unplug that if it'll fix it that much... 01 xj sport 4.0

 

Idle Air Control valve

 

Seems every year they made changes to what/where the vacuum line were routed. Looks like your MAP sensor is hooked to the other port, that the sensor witht the green connector. That vac line maybe should be connected to the PCV system which is goes to the top of the valve cover close toward the rear.

You should probably have a emission sticker decal on the radiator core support with a picture of the vaccum line and routing. If its still there see if that helps

 

No sticker. I know where it went to, it connects directly to the box with the green plug, just didn't know what that was or what it was for.

I cleaned up the iac (a little funky) with brake cleaner and fixed that vac hose and she's running perfect again and back to her normal 1,000RPM idle.

you need to hook that back up.. 1000rpm idle is still to high....

you are losing much needed vacuum pressure

 

Nothing is unhooked, and there are no more leaks. I misted starting fluid all over under the hood to make sure of it and double triple checked every vac line. 1,000 is 100% normal for my Jeep, been that way since before i owned it and my brother in law had it at least 5 years

 

It was hard to tell from the pic where that line was disconnected from the MAP sensor. If you were running without a vac signal to the MAP, the idle should have been poor, along with running rich and terrible fuel mileage and with a check engine light.

You can call 1000k rpm idle normal if you want, but thats a little high. It may not be high enough for a concern but when in gear its putting some stress on the torque convertor and trans fluid temps (slightly though) There might be a concern with the IAC valve, TP sensor or another vacuum leak. If all that is ok its possible someone screwed in the the base idle/throttle stop screw.

 

Since it's normal for mine i won't sweat it until the grass gets green and the air gets warm lol
