Need to fit a new water pump on my 2000 4.0 I6 GC - cannot seem to get the bolt which holds the viscous coupled fan to the water pump shaft undone.
Have tried using a rubber grip on the water pump pulley but no joy, it just keeps slipping. I do have the correct 36mm spanner for the nut but I'm not making any progress.
Any tips or special technique for getting this undone ?

Yes, it's left hand thread! Oh, SNAP!

I printed off the section in the workshop manual and it says it is a RIGHT HAND thread - I've checked the replacement pump to confirm and that also has a right hand thread.
Manual states the pump goes counter clockwise.
I have removed viscous coupled fans before from some of my Fords - Granada & Sierra and they were LEFT HAND threaded.
Will have another go tomorrow.

OH.....WAIT....You may be right! The ones with the v-belt are left hand. The ones with the serps are right hand. My bad! My 2000 WJ 4.0 only has an electric fan, but the threaded stub for the clutch fan is still there.
