Default Vibrating 2016 Grand Cherokee

We have a2016 Grand Cherokee SRT. There is a right rear dampner that needs to be replaced but is back ordered. Hadn't noticed much problem till this week. But a week ago the mechanic said the rotors needed to be turned but brakes were great. Our Jeep is vibrating. We are wondering which prob it could be. Or could it be the tires simply need balanced? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all

First place to start is tire and wheel balance then go on from there if it continues. Next would be tire separation/delamination. Always try the most obvious and cheapest cures first in this truly endless game of process and elimination!

Default Thank you

Thank you so much for the advice. I will take it for sure. The tires were just put on last month so I am hoping there is no problem with them. A tire balance or maybe turning the rotors would be a relief if that is all that it is. Have a great day my friend!

My privilege, I am in the tire industry, and I can tell you first hand they have not yet figured out how to make a perfectly round tire. Or even actually understand how a spin balancer is supposed to work. Trust me... They don't want to pay these guys enough to care, and they are definitely getting everything they have decided they don't want to pay for. Poor trade skills, and lack of pride in workmanship.

Funny story, but not at the time! When Firestone first came out with the "Wide Oval" tires, everybody wanted them! They were a wide tread design that put more rubber on the road. A guy I knew knew a guy who worked for Firestone (can you see where this is going?) and got me 4 tires for $50! When I put them on my Chrysler, it shook so bad I couldn't drive it! Another friend put them on a spin balancer and told me they were off center at the bead. They were factory defects returned for replacement and this guy thought he'd make some money under the table! I wanted to kill this dude, but I couldn't find him!

To put this into perspective, a Hurst floor shifter was $50!

Were you putting them on Cragar wheels? Around the same time the wide oval came out Cragar was selling wheels that required about 80 PSI to make them bead up! Those were SCARY! lol

No, I had Mickey Thompson steel wheels. The clue was the serial numbers on the tires were smeared with a hot iron. I never checked!

Yep... It's still that way. When those numbers are smeared they are actually not supposed to ever be mounted or sold again. I have someone show up with almost new truck tires like that wanting to sell them once in awhile. Nope... Those are either hot or they are "adjustment" tires per warranty and are not supposed to ever hit the highway again.

They might be good enough for a hay wagon! A buddy of mine found a hay wagon with a "war" tire on it! It was from rationing during WWII! It was all checked and cracked, but had a tube in it and was still holding air. It was so bad it looked like if you tried to take it off the rim, it would come apart.

Did we chase the OP away?

Probably... lol I ended up throwing it away several years ago but I had one here that I took off of a car one of the oldtimers had around here from the rationing days. It was off of a model A and what he did was cut the tread area off of a blown tire and then slid it over a bald casing then aired it back up to get by. lol
