I have a 2004 Overland that has been making a grinding noise from the Venture Gear NV247 transfer case everytime I turn to go around a corner. It didn't make any noise until after i got hit outside of FT. Lauderdale. I have had the jeep in to the dealership since i have been here to fix the power steering and look at anyother problems that may be wrong and they told me it was fine. I am sure gears grinding is not a good thing. Is it common for this Venture gear to do this?
I work at a jeep dealership out in CA. Is your sunod a grinding noise or a moaning sound ? 247's should be serviced (fluid changed) routinly. They use a special fluid because they have a viscous coupler (diff) inside, when the fluid gets old/worn out the viscous will make a moaning sound on turns. In severe causes the viscous could burn out, that costs alot to repair.
Hope this helps.

it started as a moan and now it sounds more like a grinding. we are taking it in to have the dealership check it out. we are under an extended warranty so I hope it is covered. Is there anything i should know before i go to the mechanic there and have him look at it. I really like the jeep and don't want a line of B.S. from someone trying to get more money. Thanks for any advise you can give.
