Hi, when turning left in slow speed it sound slike the tires are rubbing/squeaking, it dont sound like the VC are bad (ZJ 93, 249). Some say steering pump, but is that the black box over the steering gear or is it the steering gear that they mean? Is there some way to tell what it is, its only on hard left turns when running slow, its NOT tires rubbing, its not so hard turn.

I've got a similar issue I think. On slow turns I'm getting a "pulsing" or on/off power steering feeling from the steering wheel. A few times when making a right hand turn I've had to pull the wheel really, really hard as if I had absolutely 0 power steering.
What would be the first course of action? Would anyone suggest a power steering fluid flush or just bring it directly to the shop and skip that step?

It's just my opinion, but it sounds like the power assist piston seals in the steering box are bad.
pwb, you may have a bad axle u-joint on the left side.

Mine need to be hot before it act like this. I did smell at the oil today and it didnt smell like oil, i dont know how bad oil smells like, but it did smell a litle burned i think. The collor was dark brown. I have ordered some new Mopar oil. I did call my local jeep dealer and he said that there was some info that i should use ATF4+ ??? or some Fiat oil, they didnt use any mopar oil anymore, but som oil that Fiat recommend ?? What would happend if a customer with ZJ 93 and AW4 came to change oil on the AW4 and stering pump and they used ATF4+ ??
Should i flush the pump like this, remove the return hose, plug the hole in the plastic box, start engine and pour in new oil and old oil then came out of the return hose? Return hose is the hose that goes in to the plastic box on the pump?

My Haynes repair manual says Mercon/Dextron III in the AW4 for 93, and 94 or later uses ATF+4. They say the power steering uses Mopar power steering fluid or equivalent. (Whatever equivalent means!) The Quadatrac takes Mopar transfer case fluid or equiv, and Seletrac uses ATF+4.
I really don't know what the differences in fluids are, but I do know one thing. Don't use Dextron in a GM power steering pump! The seals will self destruct in about 3 days!
