Uncomfortable seats...
Hello,
I was wondering if its possible to use an 01 grand cherokee seat on an 07? I recently test drove an 07 grand cherokee limited and couldn't wait to get back into my old 01. The seats were like sitting on bricks. It was a nice jeep but unbelievably uncomfortable. Are there any seating solutions to replace them?

Welcome to CF!
Anything beyond 04 I can't say for sure, but I put a 95 XJ driver's seat in my 00 WJ for the same reason. The side bolsters were pinching the nerves in my hip.
AFAIK, here's the skinny. The seat cushion assembly is bolted to the base track system with 4 nuts on studs. They can be gotten to from underneath, but are difficult. Your best bet is to remove the whole unit from the floor, then take it apart. The bolt pattern is the same regardless of weither it's power or manual. The nuts are 1/2" or 13mm wrench. Your floor pan may be different but the seat cushions should still be the same.
At my local junkyard, seats are $15 each plus a $1 core charge, which I ate, for any seat.

I know how you feel. The seats in my 08 are hard as rocks. It was one of the first things I noticed. A far cry from the zj and wj seats that everyone wants to put in their xj. They remind me of the seats in older volvos and vw golfs. Not very comfortable.

Thanks for the replies. How about the hookups for the power seats and heat? I think getting a couple 01 seats from the junkyard is a great idea. My only concern is the motors and the heat still working. I'm sure I could get the leather redone to match the existing back seat. Does anyone make a complete heater replacement unit?
Yes, the seats in the 07 reminded me of some cheap commuter car....not a luxury SUV. You know its bad when you get out of a much newer, tight jeep you just test drove and can't wait to get back in your old one you came in!

You'd probably use your 07 track bases so the motors will be good and I'm sure you could get seat heater elements from a dealer if you need them. IDK if heated seats was an option in 01 or not, but possibly in 02 or 03.
Remember the bucket style seats were in all WJs from 99-04.

Another reason an 04 WJ is the newest Grand I will ever own and my seat has power lumbar in it with all the other plus's. But the 4wd in the WJ's were the last years of a good system.

I'm with Fred 100%. Dual live axle platform, manually shifted t/case, and not too many electronics. My next jeep will probably be an XJ, a REAL XJ! I had occasion to rent a 2015 Patriot and I hated it! I was SO glad to get back into my WJ!

Yes I'm thinking about keeping my 01 with 197k. I actually looked for a low mileage 04 and found one but it was already gone. 76k miles...practically new. I'm guessing if I bought the 07 and had to replace the seats, its going to become a project. Plus I don't know what kind of money I would be looking at to redo the 01 seats in leather to match the 07. I'm hearing all around that 2004 was the last year for serious Cherokees. The person I spoke to about the 04 said a lot of good 99 to 04 Cherokees were destroyed during that cash for clunkers mess. What a waste!
I've know a few people who got patriots when they came out.....and hated them!!

I needed to rent a car and got a 2015 Patriot. I also hated it! No power to speak of, uncomfortable seats, uncomfortable driving position, lack of rear visibility, windowsills too high, weird trans shifter, etc ad infinim. OH...it had a good radio.

I'm seeing a real pattern with bad seats! I've seen some reviews of people complaining about the seats in the 2011"s and up. 30 or 40k + there shouldn't be anything to complain about.
This could also be a good business opportunity....building nice aftermarket seats for 05 and up Cherokees....Maybe redoing WJ seats to match the factory back seats....
Any opinions out there for adding a limited slip to a WJ? Lunchbox locker?

A factory LSD Trac-Lok was available in 2wd 4.0 models only 99-01, replaced by Vari-Lok for 02-04.

My 04 WJ has the D30/D44a differentials both with Vari-Lok and 3.73 gears and the 4.7HO engine. It had just over 200,000 mi. on it when I bought it with every service record (all done at Jeep dealerships) since new.
I have owned it now for just about 6 yrs. now and have done nothing to it except when I bought it had every fluid changed front to rear and syn, fluids installed. It has every option available that year and all still work fine.
In the 02-04 models I think they did make some design changes that they had in the 99-01 models. The only problem with mine is keeping the wife out of it when she goes to town instead of her car, she says its easier to load a lot in the rear in the back of it lol.
