4x4 mode should be used on loose terrain, like mud, snow, dirt, gravel etc. reason being is that the tires all spin at the same speed. Going straight is not a problem, but when you turn, the tires while still spinning at the same speed are not allowed to compensate for different tire speeds between the inner and outter wheel arcs of travel. Unless you have a transfer case that gives you the option of going 4wd Part Time and 4wd Full Time like the NP242 does, i highly recommend you dont use 4x4 on dry concrete or dry pavement. You can break something.

I'm not sure what kind of transfer case I have but the linkage needs to be adjusted because it only goes into 4 part time so that's all I have rite now.

if your riding around in 4 high, i would park that ***** and not drive it till you can get it fixed. essentially your riding around spinning all 4 wheels all the time. so much stress on the driveline thats uneeded. and like said above, when you turn the wheels want to turn at the same time, but to turn correctly without screeching or anything the inner wheel should turn less. thats why it hops, jumps, screechs, squeals really does anything but turn

No it goes from 2 wheel to 4 part time and those are the only two that engage

If your Jeep cracks and pops on dry pavement in Part Time 4wd it means that the 4x4 is working correctly. Running it on dry pavement for more than just testing in 4x4 is a way to make sure that it won't work, for long.
