Default Transmission overheat Indicator

My wife informed me today that the transmission indicator on the dash will flash on for a second or two and then go back off. She is not towing anything and sometimes it happens sitting idle at a stop light or sometimes while in drive.

The fluid has been checked out as good. The vehicle has never overheated.
Could it be just the sensor?
The transmission hasn't slipped or anything.

Thanks

There is a thermistor in the trans that registers temperature. It's designed to not allow a shift into 4th (O/D) gear if the trans is below 30*F or above 260*F. It may be getting faulty.
