I'm not aware of how jeeps are constructed, but on my Chevy 4X4 there is an adapter between the trans and the transfer case. There is a seal on the shafts of both units that could leak. My problem was that everytime I checked my transfer, it was overfull. Likewise, my transmission was low. I guess the adapter was filling up with fluid because it didn't have a drain.

I believe Jeeps are directly coupled without an adapter and may have a drain. My Chevy had a GM tranny and a New Process transfer case. It needed an internal sleeve to mate the two.

Just a clue as to where it look.

If it's leaking where the drive shaft goes in, replace the transfer case output shaft seal. After getting a new seal, you can remove the shaft, pop out the old seal, and tap in a new one, and the leak will be gone. Or take the old one once it's removed to match it up at the auto parts store. That way you know you get the correct seal. It looks like a 2WD trans tailshaft seal. I had to replace it on my AWD WJ.
