transmission install questions
i have a 99 grand cherokee laredo 4.0 4x4 with a 42re tansmission.
i removed and i am installing my transmission myself to save bookoos of money on the rebuild. but im having trouble getting the transmission in. i lined everything up correctly ive already bolted my torque converter to the flexplate. but my bellhousing is still an eighth on an inch away from the block to bolt it up. does anybody know if there is something i wouldnt realize is stopping it or should i just kick it in cuz thats my next option as of right now

I did not look at the link, but do not bolt the converter up intil the bell bolts are in, then make sure you can spin the converter, and then you can bolt it up. make sure to grease the hub and the dowel pins on the bellhousing too.

^ what he said. NEVER bolt the T/C up until the trans is bolted and tightend down to the engine. Actually make sure the T/C is not contacting the flexplate/flywheel before you tighten the trans to the engine. The converter should be able to spin/wiggle when the trans is mounted and tightened to the engine, there should be at least an 1/8" or more gap between the converter and flexplate before tightening the converter bolts.

if you cant spin the converter free of the flexplate than its not in all the way still. if your turning the engine over and the converter is touching it may turn. But again, you should be able to turn the converter by its self with the bell bolts tight.
