Default Transmission dipstick

Anyone else's tranny dipstick read higher on one side than the other. Which one do I go by. If I put the marked indicator ( on the stick ) in face up I get one reading, face down I get another. What am I missing? Its warmed up, ran through the gears & checked in neutral.

The low side reading is dry so Im assuming its not rubbing off on the tube wall. The stick also has the Z shaped bend in it.

Thanks for the input.

I've been a mechanic for over 25 years an still have trouble reading the transmission dipstick. So you're not alone.

Best bet, average the two readings. A pint low is not a problem. more than that or a pint above is a worry.

Thanks Bustedback you make me feel a whole lot better. I thought I was being really dumb or missing something to easy. haha.

Great point dave1123. Im a little under the full mark one way & just under the OK mark when checked the other way. Not sure how much difference that is. I wasnt to stressed because seemed to be in range. I just thought maybe I was checking it wrong. Will probably add a touch more to bring the reading on the one side to full, giving me an average in the middle of OK.

Thank you both for your input.

I always read the lower side, but like mentioned above you could average it and not have a problem.
