Default Transfer case swap

I just purchased a '95 ZJ with the 5.2L in it. I also own a '97 ZJ with the 4.0L in it. The '95 has the Quadratrac AWD transfer case in it. The '97 has the Selecttrac 2WD to 4WD transfer case in it.
My question is can I swap the Selecttrac transfer from the '97 into the '95 without much hassle other than also having to swap the shifting console? Also will the transfer case from the '97 be able to handle the 5.2L without breaking apart?

The answer to your questions are yes, the t/case is strong enough and the swap's simplicity depends on input shaft spline count and drive shafts.

Go to http://jeepforum.com/forum/f13/trans...1-np242-685644. This should give you all the info you'll need to know. Read it carefully, because there is a lot of specific information there.

Thanks for the link Dave. Took a look at it and it really looks pretty simple. Also it doesn't look like I even need to switch the console. Just the plastic gate for the transfer shifter.

Actually, the biggest deal is making sure you use the short linkage arm from the 242. If you use the long one from the 249, you may not be able to shift to low range.
