Default Trans Trouble

Lost the trans in my 1995 GC 2wd,,,got the old trans out ,and having trouble putting new one in,,i cant get it close enough to start bolts,and not having real dowels is not helping !!the replacement is out of 93,both 42RE-4.0L GC'S....i'm going to try longer bolts tomorrow,to get it started,but Damn,what a PIA,,the TC is all the way seated in the trans,but i don't know,,,,,,i've done 6 or 7 trans jobs,but this is the only one that didn't slide right on...........any ideas? other than burn it where it sits or sell it

The torque converter needs to be seated on the pump properly. Measure the distance from the bellhousing bolt flange to the torque converter mounting bolts. Then measure the distance from the engine rear flange to the flex plate. The torque converter has got to be more than the flexplate by about 1/2". If the torque converter isn't far enough back try twisting it both ways quickly while pushing it back. If everything is lined up perfectly, it should just about drop together.

trans in,everything great except,new trans out of 93 has dipstick on right side,,and had no dipstick,so i'm using stick out of 95,,,will they be the same ??
